The “Recession Special” of Uniforms
Keeping in line with the recent “less-is-more” economic trend, the Mets recently unveiled a commemorative uniform patch for the inaugural 2009 season at Citi Field.
Nothing says “inspiration” like block letters and no images. Does anyone else suddenly crave pizza?
At first, financial constraints kept the team from hiring an actual designer to create the patch. Eventually a design contest was advertised to all local residents capable of holding a pencil. 4th grader Josina Reyes won the contest for her ingenuity, her originality and her willingness to turn down prize money in exchange for two ice cream cones and one of those pink Mets t-shirts that no self-respecting female fan purchases anyway. The inspiring piece of art is to be worn on the right sleeve throughout the 2009 season.
