Holy Twin City Sports Back-to-Back Dramatic Victories, Batman!

After Favre led Adrian Peterson to beat the rival Packers, overnight crews enjoyed overtime pay (presumably, I mean, they have to be union right? And unions get time and a half for anything beyond bankers’ hours) converting the dome back to baseball for yesterday’s one game playoff between the Twins and the Tigers.

The Tigers led the lowly AL Central for about five months, and led by a seven games with less than a month to go. Seven games is cozy lead, if you’re not the Mets (or Dodgers). But not for the Tigers, who underestimated the Morneau-less Twins by allowing their lead to shrink.

The game fit to the same tone… Tigers started off with a 3-0 lead, thanks to Miguel Cabrera drunken HR (Hooray Beer!). But the lead slid. Though the Tigers scored a run in the top of the 10th, a lead-off triple in the bottom of the inning promised there would be more baseball to play. Well, two more innings before the Twins walked off to a playoff match-up against the Yankees: a team that Minnesota has not been able to beat all season.

Today everyone in the North Star state was happy. A good day to go to the DMV and other notorious hassles because hey, no one was going to be in a bad mood after football and baseball victories like those of the previous 48-hours!

The Twins may not be able to celebrate too much, with only about twenty hours before playing in the Bronx, but this should be a celebration they should enjoy. Their victory was well-deserved and will likely be their highest accomplishment of the season. But still good. Winning a division is a success. Congrats, Twinkies!
