LeBron Runs Away from Loss, Sportsmanship

Written by rachelarbeit

After losing to the Magic on Saturday night, LeBron James left Orlando with his tail between his legs.

The battle of the superstars that seemingly everyone was looking for, the highly anticipated Kobe versus LeBron final will not happen. Not this year, at least.

On Saturday night the Orlando Magic prevailed, sending LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers home disappointed and upset.

LeBron, proving again that he is still young and emotional, stormed out of the Amway arena without shaking hands with the Magic, or speaking to the media. He brushed the celebratory confetti away, which he could’ve used to dry his crying eyes and departed the arena in headphones. Many speculate that he was listening to self-pity emo music. Or violins.

Ducking out on the media is one way to show you are not ready for the leadership position you’ve been given, but dissing your opponents is truly lame. Youngsters around the globe, probably including LeBron’s eldest child (five years old) are better versed in sportsmanship and good taste than the NBA MVP.

“It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them,” LeBron said later, even though it was obvious. “I’m a winner,” he continued, clearly confused by how the series ended, “It’s not being a poor sport or anything like that,” LeBron rambled on, unaware that his lack of actions clearly make him a poor sport. “If somebody beats you up, you’re not going to congratulate them. That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m a competitor. That’s what I do. It doesn’t make sense for me to go over and shake somebody’s hand.”

Wow, LeBron, wow.

Can we strip you of the King title yet? You have nothing in sports if you don’t have good competition. Everyone at the NBA level is a competitor, that’s what they do. The other thing they do, is display maturity when needed. Or so the viewing audience, remember us? The fans! We’d like to see players act like they understand decent, respectful behavior.

Maybe those who congratulated LeBron for his MVP award shouldn’t have.

But I guess when you’ve been told you’re amazing since before puberty concluded, you may be distraught by not having an NBA title at the tender age of 24. Poor Bron-Bron.

Right now, LeBron is angry that his team did not prevail. But every season for his entire career, LeBron will have a chance at a championship. In the future, LeBron will see that there was no excuse for his inexcusable lack of sportsmanship. He is respected and will, hopefully, learn to respect his competition and the game he plays.
